Training & Workshops

Whether or not our clients (or we) consider themselves religious, questions of spirituality, belief, and identity often make their way into the therapy room. Sometimes these conversations are grounding and meaningful, while at other times, they touch into areas of shame, fear, loss, or trauma.

Do you feel confident incorporating someone’s faith into your therapy? Would you like to feel more confident working with those who have had difficult experiences of faith or experienced religious trauma?

I run a half-day online training for psychologists, therapists and counsellors which will help you to:

  • Build confidence and skills in exploring faith, spirituality and religion.
  • Understand the unique dynamics of religious trauma.
  • Recognise both the positive and painful impacts of faith and spiritual practice, as well as with leaving religion.
  • Gain practical tools for working with clients whose experiences of religion are complex or traumatic.

The next training session will be later this year. Please email me to register your interest.

Feedback from previous attendees:

“This is an excellent course with exactly the right balance between teaching points and group discussion. Sarah is super sensitive and gentle and yet keeps the the training firmly on track which is a great combination of skills. It’s informative and reflective and is very much needed. It was great to see practitioners attending who are not religious in any way at all.”

“It was thorough and Sarah you are clearly very knowledgeable and passionate! I valued hearing about your personal experiences and think this helped create a space where other attendees could share if they wished to. It felt like people from a range of perspectives and backgrounds and levels of experience with working with religion and religious trauma in therapy could take something from the training – wide appeal! Do it, it’s relevant even if you don’t think it is!”

“It was brilliant, sensitively and safely held. Can’t think of improvements honestly.”

“It has given me the confidence to explore religion more in therapeutic sessions. I can’t think of any improvements. [This training] is important no matter your own view on religion.”

“I have ADHD and it is rare that I remain this attentive during trainings. I think it was excellent.”

“I enjoyed how you didn’t shy away from the heavy/painful issues but also didn’t demean religion, faith or spirituality. That made it feel like a safe space.”

I can also put together bespoke workshops for your organisation; please get in touch if you are interested in this.
